Another fantastic Saturday of NHL actions is set to play out on October 12. Fourteen matches are around the board during Saturday. Among those games set to return will be involving the Washington Capitals and the Dallas Stars. These two teams are thought to be early contenders this season. This match could faceoff at about 8:00 PM Eastern time on Saturday night.
Washington has started the season with a list of 2-1-2, that includes them in second place of the Metropolitan Division. Though the Capitals are still sitting at the surface of the division, this was not quite the beginning theyd planned. Washington has lost their past three games after a 2-0 start. The Capitals will seem to get back on track with a road victory on Saturday night.
The Stars are now in fifth place of their Central Division. Dallas hasnt been off to the beginning they hoped for after making some moves in the offseason. The Stars have earned points in their last two games, but will appear to build up a winning series to get back into a winning record early in this season.
Both the Capitals and the Stars both have a lot of talent on their roster because they both made playoff runs last season. While Dallas proceeded on into the second round before being knocked out, washington was pumped out from seven games. Both of these teams havent had the best starts but will perform in an early season matchup on Saturday.
Washington and Dallas met up twice during season. The game has been in Washington. The Capitals were able to fight back, although the Stars jumped out to a 3-1 lead. Jason Dickinson finished the comeback bid of Washington in overtime though. The second match was hosted by the Stars and it was yet another one that was . Tyler Seguin scored his second goal of the night in overtime to give Dallas the win.
The Capitals and the Stars have already met up once this season . Evgeny Kuznetsov opened the scoring with a goal in the first period. John Carlson gave Washington the lead back after it was tied by Roope Hintz up. Nicklas Backstrom played hero as he scored with thirty seconds left in the game to tie this up. Tyler Seguin finished the game despite the overtime winner to give Dallas the win.
Dallas has been in a position to acquire the 3 games against Washington going back to last year. The Stars just win this season came from the Capitals and they will look to make their second win of this season also from Washington. Both of these teams have been in eight of the last nine matchups against each other, which makes me expect another great match on Saturday.
The Capitals have had lots of power play opportunities to receive their particular teams going so far this year. Washington has scored four power play goals on twenty chances this year. The Capitals penalty kill was doing well stopping opponents on twelve of the fifteen power play chances. Washington will appear to maintain these numbers up through the entire year.
Dallas specific teams has not been doing on this season. The Stars have only scored one power play goal around two chances this season to get a 7.14 power play percentage. Dallas has committed twenty-one penalties, but also possess just allowed three goals to get an 85.71 penalty kill percentage.
The Stars will seem to change some things up going into Saturday nights matchup as they look to acquire their power play moving. Washington has a slight edge as their power play has been working, although both teams have put up a penalty kill the season. With Alexander Ovechkin to the power play it is hazardous and Dallas will look to neutralize it.
Braden Holtby will get the nod in net for the Capitals in this match. Holtby has gone 1-1-2 in his starts thus far this year. He has made a save percentage of .868 along with a GAA of 3.67. Last season, Holtby went 32-19-5 with a .911 save percentage and a 2.82 GAA. Holtby has not been off to a excellent start, but I expect him to make it moving sooner rather than later.
Ben Bishop is expected to start on Saturday night. Bishop has gone this year to 1-2-1. He has submitted a save percentage of .910 and a 2.48 GAA. As he ended with a list of 27-15-2 bishop had been a Vezina Trophy finalist last season. In these games that he had a .934 save percentage along with a GAA of 1.98 to assist lead the Stars into the playoffs.
Bishop has set up the numbers so much this season, although neither goalie was off to the best beginning. Holtby is a starting netminder, although bishop had the season . I expect this challenging beginning to turn around. I believe because he seems to provide a much needed win to the Capitals Holtby will look for some revenge against the Stars.
The Stars were able to take the season series between these two teams very first game, but I believe that Washington will bounce straight right back with a road win of their own. Neither team was off to an perfect beginning, but the Capitals are doing much better than Dallas. Washingtons special teams might help provide them an increase and if Holtby may find his groove, it might help the Capitals pull off the road mad.
BetOnline has Dallas recorded as a -115 against the money line. This implies that the Stars will win this game around 53.5% of their time. I think this sport needs to be closer to or in favor of the Capitals. Washington is on a losing run against Dallas, but all streaks come to an end. I think that the Capitals will end their three game slide on Saturday with a road win against the Stars night.
