Tributes have been paid to famous cuts man Benny King later he passed out at the age 78.
A notable figure in Scottish boxing for a number of decades, King firstly worked the corner as a coach and subsequently became a cuts guy for a long collection of fighters, including Craig Docherty, Kevin Anderson Jawaid Khaliq, Tony Dodson, Mark Hobson, James Hare and Kris Carslaw.
Manager Tommy Gilmour and promoter praised the faithful service and commitment of the Greenock guy, his long-term friend.
He has been my pal to get 40-odd years, said Gilmour. All the places that I went in the world, Benny came together along with me.
There has been a good deal of unforgettable nights. Craig Docherty got seriously cut and he has retained so many fighters moving. He was always respected, whichever side of the fence he worked for.
His loyalty was beyond question, I think that was one of his strongest points. He was loyal to me and the rest of my loved ones, that you couldnt have wished for even a better colleague, or even a friend.
We took him all over the world with us, and he constantly kept everyone together, and the fighters adored him. He gained everyones admiration as well as their friendship.
Gilmour revealed King abilities were utilised during a late night traffic crash.
We could observe this lorry turning , got out of their car, and Benny at the point, he had had a great deal of trouble with his back, but the adrenaline should have been pumping.
He jumped up onto the cabin, captured the fella out. He had a cut and Benny says Go and receive my cut gear out. Benny patched the guy up in the side of the street until the ambulance came.
Ring Announcer Craig Stephen recalled how Kings calm schooling for a cornerman assisted Kevin Anderson to a British title win over Young Mutley at 2006.
Benny told it was, explained Stephen. Kevin Anderson against Young Mutley, I wasnt working the fight, but I had been there and quite near the corner. Benny was cool in the corner as always, although kevin had been in trouble.
Kevin looked up and wenthe has broke my teeth, and Benny simply looked at him and saidI will buy you a brand new one and got on with it. He kept him moving and Kevin eventually stopped Young Mutley.
Billy Nelson, who has trained a range of the most successful fighters of Scotland, hailed Kings professionalism.
Benny was a well-known and serene man. He had time for everyone.
A wealth of understanding of boxing. An all-round fine man. You knew you had a solid, dependable man working in your corner, if he was doing your reductions, and he always gave you great advice following the struggle.
Fellow coach Colin Belshaw also benefited in the words of King, who passed his experience before bowing out of this sport.
He worked together with Kris Carslaw and myself at the British title fight against Brian Rose, explained Belshaw. Kris had a horrible cut early on and Benny maintained that collectively from the third until the 12th round.
He talked me , helped me to do cuts myself, and I went on to work in that area.
I think hell go down as an iconic name, a true legend. He put an awful lot of his entire life to boxing
