Tributes are paid to famous cuts man Benny King afterwards he passed away at the age 78.
A notable figure in Scottish boxing for numerous decades, King initially worked the corner for a trainer and then turned into a cuts man for a long collection of fighters, including Craig Docherty, Kevin Anderson Jawaid Khaliq, Tony Dodson, Mark Hobson, James Hare and Kris Carslaw.
Promoter and director Tommy Gilmour commended the service and dedication of the Greenock man.
Hes been my pal for 40-odd decades, said Gilmour. All the places that I went from the world, Benny came along with me.
Theres been a whole lot of memorable nights. Craig Docherty got cut and he has retained fighters. He was always respected, no matter which side of the weapon he worked .
His loyalty was beyond question, I believe that has been one of the strongest points. He was so loyal to me along with the rest of my loved ones, that you could not have wished for a better friend, or even a better colleague.
We took him all around the world together with us, and he always kept everybody together, along with the fighters loved him. He gained everyones admiration as well as their friendship
Gilmour demonstrated King abilities were utilised throughout a traffic accident.
We might see that this lorry turning over, got out of the automobile, and Benny at that stage, hed had a whole lot of difficulty with his spine, but the adrenaline should have been pumping.
He jumped onto the cottage, got the fella out. He had a cut eye and Benny says Go and get my cut equipment out. Benny patched the guy up at the face of the road before the ambulance arrived.
Ring Announcer Craig Stephen recalled Kings calm instruction as a cornerman assisted Kevin Anderson to a name win over Young Mutley in 2006.
Benny told it like it was, explained Stephen. Kevin Anderson against Young Mutley, I was not working the fight, but I was there and quite close to the corner. Benny was cool at the corner as always, although kevin had been in trouble.
Kevin looked up and wenthes broke my teeth, and Benny only looked at him and saidIll get you a new one and got on with it. He kept him going and Kevin eventually stopped Young Mutley.
Billy Nelson, whos trained a range of Scotlands most prosperous fighters, hailed Kings professionalism.
Benny was a favorite and calm man. He had time for everyone.
A wealth of understanding of boxing. An all-round fine man. You knew that you had a sound, dependable man working on your cornerif he was performing your reductions, and he gave you great advice after the fight.
Fellow coach Colin Belshaw also profited before bowing from this sport from the words of King, who passed to his experience.
He worked together with Kris Carslaw and myself at the British title fight against Brian Rose, explained Belshaw. Kris had a horrible cut on and Benny maintained that collectively from the next until the 12th round.
He talked me , helped me to do cuts myself, and I went on to work in that area.
I believe he will go down as an iconic name, a true legend. He also put an awful lot of his life to boxing.
