Given that this was my 6th SAT in 2011, and the first one I am able to say had been a undoubtedly bad experience — I assume my it’s likely thatn’t so bad (I’m attempting to look on the bright side).
And, I’m looking for the classes to impart from my experience that is bad hopefully others can prevent the pitfalls.
1) Don’t Take the SAT in a Gym if you can make it! The SAT 2 testers had been right next door into the fitness center (cordoned off by a very non-sound proofed sliding wall), and that test stops an hour earlier and there is very loud (and understandable) jubilation when their test was done — and gyms noise that is amplify. Are you getting the image?
2) Maybe I’ll increase this part associated with the story that the overly complacent proctor seemed oblivious to any or all of the amplified noise.
2) A Proper Desk is essential! This fitness center had ‘deskettes,’ which were big sufficient to house one 8 x 11 size booklet, which intended I could ignore getting comfortable in my surroundings and rather focus on the way that is best to ‘juggle’ my test book, answer booklet, calculator and pencils. NOT GOOD.
3) Keep Your Own Time! It didn’t occur to me that I couldn’t count on the proctors because I guess I got fortunate in the past. Perhaps not today. He messed me up so badly I do not understand where to start. View video for details.
4) test may breed Proctor Complacency november. At the very least if i am to guage by my experience today. There were very kids that are few attendance, and the proctors addressed it as an exhibition game.
If this were a genuine stakes sat for me personally, I’d cancel my ratings before that deadline. Thankfully it’s not ( and I don’t have to share if I actually don’t want to).
If I were a senior and this was my ‘final shot,’ We’d be creating a BIG stink right now with the College Board, that is without a doubt. I’d be insisting on a re-do because those conditions could not reflect my best abilities.
But maybe I’m just too delicate.
Before Test Day Thoughts day
Are you taking the SAT the next day? This feeling is had by me it is not one of the ‘popular times.’ Feels neither fish nor fowl if you ask me (in other words. far too late for seniors/too early for juniors).
This may be my SAT that is 6th in, and my second to last before I’m completed with this task. Then, onto the following (whatever that is). Every person asks, ‘The ACT?’ Maybe. I do want to go when.
I’ll say this though: I got with this horse that is SAT let the journey lead me, and I wound up in a completely different location than I ever expected. But that’s another blog post.
For the present time, two minute that is last before test day:
- Pack super chocolate brown bars for the breaks. Dagoba Superfruit is my personal favorite, but any dark chocolate with a high cocoa content (70% and greater) can do the trick (in other words. fits completely right into a 5 moment break and provides you power).
- Math Section Strategizing: Philip Keller and Stacey Howe-Lott have both espoused a similar philosophy, which will be to skip the previous few questions and opt instead to be much more diligent on the sooner questions. Tomorrow i vow to do my very best with this strategy. (I know, finally…right? What can I say. I’m obstinate.)
And listed here is my MUST that is personal DO for today:
- Yoga — Freddie’s class at 6 pm, which is super hard and seriously wears me out. Must enforce the ‘No Computer After Yoga’ rule though (that’s what does me in every right time).
- Grab a breakfast cookie for SAT from the Red Barn Bakery (the best) morning.
- Flip through my ‘SAT Recipe Cards.’
Good luck in the event that you’re taking the SAT tomorrow!! inform me just how it goes. I’ll report back via video the moment I get home.
IQ: Exactly What Does It All Mean?
From the written book, Rapt: Attention and the concentrated Life by Winifred Gallagher:
Asian students really achieve a lot more than their IQs would appear to predict, because they work so hard in school. Because of their culture’s stress on academic accomplishment and never shaming the household, states Nisbett, ‘A Chinese-American with an IQ of 100 achieves at the level of a white American with an IQ of 120.’
I take this to suggest that values and focus trump IQ. I can work harder. Ok, noted.
She goes on to say:
… What you spend attention to shapes your mind and behavior in surprising ways … the news that is good that attention’s power to improve your brain and transform your experience isn’t limited to youth ib biology lab report example but prevails throughout life.
