Richard Hannon is eager to see that his 2000 Guineas runner-up King make his return at Sandown on Wednesday.
The Farhh colt was a shot to the colts’ Classic of the season on the Rowley Mile, however outran his odds to finish a moment that is clear behind the Aidan O’Brien-trained Magna Grecia.
King hasn’t been seen in competitive activity because, with Hannon electing to continue to keep his powder dry for a fall campaign, but he’s likely to be a warm order to create a successful comeback within this Listed competition.
“He’s in good shape and has had a wonderful break since the Guineas. Hopefully he goes there with a fantastic chance,” explained that the Herridge handler.
“I’m sure he will come on for the run – he’s been off the trail a long time, so he is bound to want it somewhat.
“We’re happy with him and it will be good to get him going again.”
King Of Change is put to confront five rivals, with the area led by the South African sponsor Last Winter of Sir Michael Stoute.
The six-year-old was off the track since January of last year, when he had been narrowly beaten in a Grade One at Kenilworth.
The Wootton and Silver Line of Charlie Appleby carries the Godolphin colours in Saeed bin Suroor’s lawn. The latter bolted upon his first start of 2019 in Nottingham in July prior to finishing fifth in a handicap at York last month.
“He’s been running nicely, but that looks a challenging race,” his coach admitted.
“He is in good shape, is functioning nicely and I am pleased with him. I am hoping to get a fantastic run.
“Sometimes these timely races could be a bit easier than the handicaps, but this one could be rough.”
Roger Varian’s long-absent Prince Eiji and John Gosden’s Celebration Mile runner-up Turgenev are the hopefuls.
The star attraction on the undercard at the Esher place is your Palace Pier that is Gosden-trained.
The Kingman colt could hardly have been more impressive with his debut on space and the course three weeks back and wants to take a penalty Of Choice Novice Stakes to victory at the Max Patel Wealth Manager under Frankie Dettori.
Gosden said:”He’s been fine and we intended to go to a newcomer. It is the day and we chose to move since he appreciated last time to the track.
“I have left him at the Dewhurst and that he was very impressive another day, (however ) you could suddenly see us slipping on the Channel – unless they lock us out!”
