‘I’m ready to go’: Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco bullish on comeback from leukemia

(CNN) — It’s not an everyday event that a baseball pitcher receives a standing ovation from the audience when they earn their way to the mound.
But Cleveland Indians star Carlos Carrasco jogged on the area and had the 4,000-plus fans at the Canal Park in their feet of Akron as he stepped from the bullpen in the sixth inning.
The hot reception of carrasco was because he was making his first league rehabilitation look.
“It feels good as people were behind me the whole way,” Carrasco told the MLB site. “From day until now.”

A surprising comeback
The Venezuelan overlooked the 2012 MLB season after undergoing Tommy John surgery — ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction.
And on his path Indians manager Terry Francona said weekly Carrasco pitched around 90-93 mph at a game.
But the right-hander quickly demonstrated he had more in the tank on the first pitch of his rehab assignment using Cleveland’s AA affiliate in Akron. Carrasco fired at a 97 miles which surprised even himself.
“You know what, it feels amazing because the very first time coming back in 2 and a half months without baseball and only a few bullpens, maybe four or three bullpens, and also the very first pitch is 97 [mph],” Carrasco said.
“Right away, I looked back into the scoreboard since I only wanted to find out what was pitch, and it was 97 miles and it feels fantastic.
“I was amazed because most of my pitches were far different than previously. My changeup, also.”

Returning to the time
His ventures have made him a figure there if Carrasco performances made him hot in Cleveland.
With the support of his spouse the Venezuelan set up back and the Carlos Carrasco Foundation which funds early childhood education in Cleveland home in Venezuela.
Saturday, Francona said the strategy was supposed to maintain Carrasco onto the plan to facilitate him back and eventually back at Cleveland of a reliever.
“I think when he began thinking about establishing as a newcomer, it kind of seemed a little daunting, somewhat far away,” the manager said.
But following an outing which included 11 of his 16 pitches clocking in at 94 miles or higher, Carrasco’s yield could be sooner rather than later.
